My absolute favourite one so far in this series.

I am fortunate to have had the chance to visit Japan. And this matters because nothing can replace having the experience of being in their culture. No books, videos, words can replicate the experience of being there and seeing them, feeling them, emerge in the energy of their thousands of years culture. It's like explaining to someone who never ate an orange, what it taste like.

You don't have to go to Japan to read this book, but it sure helps for some things to make sense.

The plot is compelling. The mother of a detective dies.
Ten years later a woman is discovered dead in a an apartment. Are these two incidents related and if so how?

There are two things that I love, love, love about the book.
First is the way that is written. Everything is different because the author is Japanese, the action is happening in Japan so the whole investigation is done in their way. Very refreshing.

The other thing I loved is: the ending. Absolutely heart-wrenching.
Now you might wonder why would i love a sad ending. It wasn't just sad, it was remarkable, incredible, memorable, deep, desperate yet it made sense. And it was completely unexpected. Yet, if I may add, the reasons behind it are not surprising for someone in Japan. The sacrifice.

Brilliant!

Read this for school, and actually liked it very much.
This is a one-of-a-kind mystery/crime novel. Had me swiping my kindle nonstop to read the next page. The plot is unpredictable and thrilling, and reading this had my hair stand on end. Would like to read the other books in the series (this is my first time reading Keigo Higashimo) if possible.
(By the way, why am I typing this review in English? owo)
