wordsofclover's review against another edition
I found the pace a bit slow and the storyline itself quite boring. A lot of repetition as well, and quick relationships to form that felt unrealistic. I think this book is dated in a way a lot of YA books that came out in the early 2000s post-Twilight tend to be as well so it was fairly juvenile in places. Not my thing anymore.
Moderate: Death of parent

Really enjoyed this. Intriguing concept, easy and captivating read, and *just* enough twists to prevent the narrative petering out. Less action and more emotional death than necessarily expected, but a good read: I’ll be seeking out the sequels.
Moderate: Cancer, Death, Terminal illness, and Death of parent
Minor: Body horror, Child death, Confinement, Blood, Murder, Gaslighting, and Injury/Injury detail
