I’m feeling devastated that another Max Porter book is over. More books posthaste, please. Porter’s books are miraculous, sentient beings. Just ... HOLT SH*T.

Max Porter is as exciting and inventive a storyteller as George Saunders and Sarah Moss. He wants to tell us about the past and try to shed light on the confounding present. It’s miraculous.

This book is a gem when you're looking at it from a linguistic perspective. The first half of this novel had me glued to the pages. The scene with a hedgehog was absolutely brutal! Unfortunately, for me, the story slows down to pedestrian pace in the final third which brings my final score to four stars. Even with that in mind, I think Lanny is definitely worth reading! There are many interesting ideas peppered throughout the book and Porter is a great observer of human nature.

I don't even know what to say about this short book. It was...interesting. I had a bit of a time trying to get into it. I WANTED to like it, and eventually I did. I had to get used to the back and forth viewpoints of the characters, that didn't take too long since I listened to it on audio instead of reading it.

In the end, I did enjoy the book and I'm glad I read it. I can see why it won the Goodreads award for it's category.

Wat een vaag boek. Ik kom er op de één of andere manier niet in.
