In a generation that greatly cherishes women's empowerment and in giving everyone a voice to be heard, I was enthralled by the synopsis of Behind Every Successful Man and got right into it, taking a day to read it. It was a fun, lightheaded and easy read that as usual pointed out the misogynistic values that dent the enviable African culture.
Like many of the books written about women freeing themselves from domesticity and becoming independent, the story became too predictable.  That is not to say that I did not enjoy it. Far from it, I found myself chuckling at the drama thrown in when Nobantu deserted her marriage home.

Topics touched on in this book is liberation for the entrepreneurial African housewife and reformations in our societal norms. It also showcases how bothersome it can be when parents don’t allow their children to follow their dreams and aspirations. This book also shows that many parents see their children as an extension of them; as a result of this try to live the lives they didn’t get to live through them.

I recommend this to anyone seeking something light to read.
