What a rollercoaster! It's been a minute since I gasped more than once while reading a book and I think Ben Oliver got me like four times. It's a fast, action packed dystopian that delivers on fun tropes in a new way. Luka Kane is a highly likeable protagonist and the extending cast of characters is well done. Do be warned, there is quite a bit of violence and the author does not shy away from injuring or killing characters. That being said, it is contextually appropriate and likely given the situation these kids find themselves in. The author delivers several roundhouse kick plot twists, some of which you see coming but they still knock you back a little. I thoroughly enjoyed this and will be quickly picking up the second in the trilogy.

This book was way darker than i expected. The pacing is a little slow at first but after a certain point, you hit the ground running. It gets super  fast paced, one thing after another thrown at you with no time to breathe. This usually isnt inherently a bad thing for most books. but for the amount of things that happen in this book, it wouldve been nice to get more time to breathe in my opinion. I wouldve loved for us to delve into certain characters motivations like Wren but i guess the author is saving that for the next book. We cant forget about the fact that this is a YA novel so of course the author will put in an insufferable love triangle!  But other than that is book is pretty ok. All the characters were cool and their banter was fun to read even if it was a little cringy at times. The author made me care about everyone even the smaller side characters like Mable, Kina and Blue which i must commend him on. The plot was also very interesting and the ben oliver is good at creating tense sequences.

Overall i give it a 3.5/5 i will read the next book just to see how things will play out. Id reccomend if you want a YA sci-fi that is a quick read.

The Loop is everything I love about dystopian fiction. I was drawn straight into these characters and their lives. I loved the friendships that developed and I am intrigued to see where this series goes next.

Terrifyingly relevant, dystopian thriller - set in the not too distant future! As a prisoner kept in 'The Loop', Luka Kane exists in a repetitive monotony. 24 hour monitoring via a camera implant and energy reaping every evening to power 'The Loop', the only hope of a pardon comes in the form of 'Delays'.  Accepting a medical test or experiment can grant you added time to your sentence. When rumours of an uprising on the outside reach Luka, and his inmates return from delays showing disturbing behaviour, he becomes convinced that something is afoot. How will he find out? How will he escape? Powerful dark thriller, raising issues of AI technology and it's implications for society.
