Quick Info
Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone
Part of a Series?: Yes
----------------------------------
Meeting the Characters
Declan McAvoy
Makenna Halstead
----------------------------------
What happens?
Mak and Declan have had a volatile relationship; they love to push each others buttons probably because they want to jump each other.
Mak has secrets and hang ups she hasn't told anyone and reasons of why she is the way she is. Declan is also pushing himself to get back into games for the hockey team. His dead beat father is hanging around causing problems and making Declan feel like he isn't worth anything.
Final thoughts
This was sweet, I'd have LOVED it to be longer but it doesn't feel super short. Its emotional when they discuss her brother and when she finally talks to her parents about everything.
I thought Declan and her were very sweet together and I thought it was a good match. I'm excited about the next book!!
Giving this three stars because its not 4. It should have been longer and I wanted more about his father. However it is a good read so its more a 3.5/4

Enemies turned to lovers romance. In high school, she was the uptight girl who only worried about getting straight A's. Never one to let loose and have fun, and often killed the fun others were having. He was a star on the school's hockey team. Women flocked him. He has charisma to match his good looks. He also had a thing for pushing her buttons. (You can read more about their HS days in the prequel Kings of Rittenhouse.) This book starts while they are in college. He stayed close to home, and carried over his star athlete status, while she went on to Stanford, but things happen, life gets in the way of the best laid plans. After being forced to work together, they start to appreciate what the other offers. And well, one thing leads to another. One innocent mistake though, threatens to tear them apart. Both characters have some secret demons they are fighting. They are well rounded, smart and complex. This is a perfect example of opposites attract. There is some humor, a couple emotional break downs and lots of sex... they are in college after all. There are also a few hints about what's to come in the future books in the series. Again, you'll get a glimpse into them all in the prequel as well. It was well written and reads easily. Alternates between POVs. There were one or two minor things that I wished were given more time to. One dealing with his father. It felt like there was still some unfinished business where he was concerned. Another dealt with her and her chosen career choice. She has chosen one field to go into because it was what her brother had wanted, but we never got to know what she had wanted to be when she grew up. Other than those little bits, it was a good story that kept my interest and made me want to get the rest of the guys stories! :)

This was a sweet romance that had my favourite sport romance or hockey. I enjoyed this one because the main characters had some history before falling for each other that helped them form a solid relationship. I loved that they were different with their passions but similar in their values which translated to a strong passion for each other. I didn’t like the reason for the third act break up as it seemed out of character for them but thought it was a sweet book and easy read for a hockey romance.

I read and enjoyed the prequel, it definitely left me starving for this story and I can say I loved it.

Mak and Declan, their banter, wittiness, chemistry and connection, the sexual tension... I loved seeing them grown and develop, though at times I got completely infuriated with their stubborn, ridiculous and at times a tad childish attitudes.

Maya Hughes writes both a sexy and heart-warming story that was entertaining and satisfying.

Such a cute story. It was great. Declan and Mak are so adorable together. It was awesome reading sports romance again. I just wish the books were longer so I could more about Declan and Makenna.

Maya Hughes did it again. This book is such a delicious read, I found myself having no words for it. First thing, it's my favorite plot (enemies to lovers). Second, strong female character who works for what she wants. Third, another perfect man.

The chemistry between Makenna and Declan ia mind blowing since the prequel. Both of them are so complex and have so many layers, especially Makenna. How she slowly opens up to Declan is beautiful to read. And the sex scenes... I WANT MORE PLEASE! They are explosive together, and this are meu favorite hot scenes of all Maya Hughes' book I read up until now.

Again, I loved the friendships in this book. Maya just have a way to create the most amazing friendship dynamics, I'm excited tô continue this series.
