I’ve grown out of this series, and it certainly has flaws in retrospect, but rereading was a trip down memory lane. Surprisingly dark for a children’s book!

Shockingly dark for a middle-grade fantasy. It's well writen, has compelling characters, and the plot moves very quickly.
I probably won't be listening to more of the series because I realize now it's 16 books long and all about war.
The first book alone deals with kidnapping, slavery, brainwashing, and cannibalism. I don't know if I have the heart to hear about more owls dying.

GOSH I loved this series as a kid!! Amazing children’s literature, with complex yet easily understood morals, lovable characters, and a nice plot. Descriptions of day being sleepy and night being invigorating may leave you wanting to become an owl yourself. Highly recommend!
