It’s weird as hell, but I loved it. The only book I’ve ever read that actually lives up to being called “a fever dream”. 

The last third of the book escalates really quickly and doesn’t explain itself very well, so it adds to the feeling of confusion and suspense, but it also means I didn’t get every plot point. 

Should’ve been gayer, though.

I love this book. If you are into the occult and eerie type of fiction this would just be what you’re looking for. It’s hard to give a good review without spoiling the book but it’s probably the easiest to say that if you are not confused after finishing this book you read it wrong. There is a very metaphoric vibe to it

Absolutely batshit insane. Like Mean Girls meets Fight Club meets The Exorcist. Throughoughly enjoyable even though reading it made me feel like I was high. Kind of Reminiscent of Angela Carter's magical realism?? Very few likeable characters and completely unpredictable.

Honestly I don’t even know what to say after that. 

Mona Awad is clearly an extremely talented author given I was hooked despite not really knowing what was going on. 

It kinda gives Black Swan vibes, in the sense that it’s super weird and it’s never really explained. Except I absolutely hated Black Swan and kinda loved this? 

Very gripping, very unique, confusing and yet somehow a social commentary of social cliques somehow. 

My recommendation is to just not question it too much and enjoy the ride!
