My love for TJR books is crazy, I've read a couple of them now and she never disappoints. This story was so beautiful and engaging, made me feel all the feelings. Highly highly recommend

4.5 stars- this book was not my favorite of hers and yet I still really really liked it. I’m not a tennis person, but that really doesn’t matter. TJR is so talented. She sucks you into the story from the beginning. Loved the character development!

It’s been a while since I read a book in one day! This felt compulsively readable, and you can’t help but love Javier, who is the real heart and soul of the story.

3.75/5 it’s just so good. In love with the way this author can make every single one of her character feel so real. It was a really fun ride. Sadly I was in a reading slump and it didn’t get me out of it since I read it over the span of 5 weeks…. But it was a delight and THE END wow

Carrie Soto was the greatest tennis player and THIS is Taylor Jenkins Reid's greatest book!!! I've read Malibu, Seven Husbands, and Daisy and this book is by far my favorite. And it's not even close. I loved Carrie Soto Is Back!!! Carrie made me want to go run in sand and train for something, I don't know what, but anything! Her determination to win and her fighting spirit are infectious. I was in the edge of my seat for every match she played. I also loved the spotlight on the double standard when it comes to male and female athletes. Men who will stop at nothing to win are competitive, ambitious, and admirable. But women who stop at nothing to win are cold, ruthless, and need to smile more. As if that could stop Carrie Soto from being unapologetically herself and a winner!!!!

(Vague end of book hints/semi-spoiler ahead):

The brilliance of this book came at the end for me. I had a feeling the book would end the way it did and rather than be upset about it, I felt like Carrie Soto: satisfied and at peace. The satisfaction of her full character arc was more satisfying then the "hoped for" ending.

How is it possible that I loved a book that was 95% tennis this much.

I am not a reading-about-sports person. I am barely a sports-watching person. I like to play, but I know I am mediocre at best, especially now that I am Carrie's age. Reading this and not only seeing but feeling what an athlete endures to achieve at this level is incredible. No wonder I was never all that great; the passion and dedication necessary are nearly unbelievable. I know Carrie wasn't the most lovable character in the start, but she is easy to come to love anyway - especially with her personal growth throughout the story. This book made me laugh and cry and really put some things about greatness and sacrifice into perspective. It was hard to put down and easy to devour, which is a common trait I have found when reading Reid's works. I really loved it.
