this has me in tears, bawling my eyes out oh my god.

the dynamics between liska and the leszy was brilliant (love a bisexual wood-spirit). i loved reading about polish mythology throughout the book, I've never read anything like this. it was fascinating to see how liska struggled with her magic and religious beliefs, beautifully done. the ending wasn't how I wanted it but it was beautiful and I wonder if the author will write another book because there is a bit of a cliffhanger in the epilogue.

If you enjoy stories about folklore, enchanted forests, and a manor full of secrets, you should try this one.

i loved it, maybe i’m biased since i’m from poland but the world that the author created, based on slavic mythology and stories, was the best part of the book.
I loved two main characters and although maybe their romance wasn’t that great and i would hope for more banter between them, it’s was still good.
The end really broke me and i truly think this shouldn’t be a stand-alone. (or at least have an alternative ending?

A cute fast read with lots of good quotes

“Grief is a bit like a chronic ache, I think - it's always there, but sometimes you notice it more and sometimes less, and sometimes it's unbearable and sometimes you think it might be gone for good.”

“You open and close like a door caught in a draught. One moment you put flowers in my hair, and the next you hide yourself from me. I don't want to live like that - forever afraid, forever restrained. You may have stopped fighting, but I've only begun. And perhaps you're right - perhaps I can't solve this. But I have to at least try.” (Very sing songy)

“You are so very brave, Liska, he says. 'Braver than you know. Infuriatingly so, in fact.“
