Hamad covers a lot of ground with this book--from history to representation in the media, from workplace conflict to current events. I was grateful to learn about this topic from someone who is both passionate and critical. As a reader, I think having subheadings would have helped me keep track of the topics being discussed, but in general, it's a book that I'll be processing and applying over time. Learned a lot, and lots more to learn.

As a white woman I am always on the look-out for books that will help me challenge my prejudice and internalized racism. This book was great for reflecting on my own behavior and since I finished reading I have gone back and reread many chapters. I think it's a book that I could go back to at any age and still learn something.

I deducted half a star, since I would've loved for some chapters and tropes to be discussed further e.g. the dragon-lady and china doll dichotomy and Asian Feminism in general. Though, I do understand that the author isn't Asian and might be uncomfortable discussing those thematics.
