Overall I really liked this book. I think Lillian Lark is going to be a favourite author of mine.
Emilia is a cool FMC, and Jasper is nicely complex, but really sweet. I think the only one I had a "problem" with was Ari. There are parallels to Elliot from [b:Deceived by the Gargoyles|59116203|Deceived by the Gargoyles (Monstrous Matches, #2)|Lillian Lark|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1640915913l/59116203._SY75_.jpg|93217791], but Ari in parts made me uncomfortable. He was so very extremely pushy and manipulative, and both Emilia and Jasper sort of shrugs their shoulders and accepts that that's who he is, and he's not really going to change.
Otherwise again, I really liked the book. My favourite thing is Emilia going against the trope of the FMC giving their powers in the end. I liked most of the dynamics in the book. What I would like at some point to see, in a Lark book, is a MMC that is a boss in all other aspect of his life be submissive in the bedroom, since I've heard that's something that fits more with reality. And in combination with that a FMC that takes charge. But that's just a hope for future books.

The writing was pretty good! There was an actual story and while it was a slightly predictable HEA, there was a lot of emotional growth and reflection for the characters. I definitely picked this up just thinking it was more monster smut; pleasantly surprised.
Emilia has a problem only a mate can solve (🙄😊), Jasper wants to be seen as more than just a monster and Ari wants true love after being alone for so long.
Ari basically manipulates/gently coaxes them into a triad/throuple relationship (not cool) as he and Jasper help Emilia deal with her new cursed snake powers.
Through a lot of boinking, self-reflection and love declarations the three come to find their way to a somewhat healthy stable relationship and then ya know...consequences of previous actions come home to roost.
The stakes could have been higher or more drawn out—they get caught by their underground secret society with little to no repercussions. Bro legit got a fine and his money stripped but it went right to his lovers. He didn’t even stew in his own actions very long outside of his liquor binging session which maybe lasted a weekend until Emilia's mom came to mother him. Which shoutout to Emilia's mama because she was very non-phased by all the monster hijinks. But this is like the third or fourth book in a connected universe so she's clearly been around the block.
A fun (very dirty) why choose monster romance (but also the boyfriends are boyfriends) with spells and curses and straight up fantastical nonsense.
