A girl born with feathers on her shoulders lives in a whore house with her mother, but hidden, until at age 18 she leaves to find her father. The characters were very likeable and was beautifully written. I didn't enjoy the love triangle and would have liked more backstories from the side characters but it was still an enchanting read.

She is born with feathers and her mother kept her a secret from the outside world.
A story of acceptance and finding yourself.
How difficult it is to fit in the world when you’re different!
This story felt like a fairytale, a dream that made me craving for more.

Once upon a time, a girl was born with feathers the colour of sunset. For years she was kept sheltered from the world, and was torn between her longing to fly free with the birds she felt a kinship with, and the fear of the cruelty of those who scorn difference. Until her desire, her need for answers takes her to the mysterious city of water, a place of sirens, wishing doors and enchanted mist, where she finds that her journey to find her long lost father is also a journey to find herself.
A gorgeous, stately moving fairytale about learning to accept yourself, to love, to live with loss, and to free yourself from that which cages you. Did I also mention that thewriting is absolutely gorgeous?!

No rating as it's YA and it always feels a little unfair to me to star rate books for which I am clearly not the target market.

Honestly I picked this up in a charity shop a while back not quite realising it was YA and I might have left it on the shelf if I had realised.

It's a cosy fantasy about a girl with feathers growing from her back, and her journey to a magical 'City of Murmurs' to seek out her father, who is part man, part bird. It's slow paced and sweet and (surprisingly) a little bit gay, but I think I'd have DNF'd it had I not found the audiobook on Spotify - so I listened to the last few chapters on the train this morning. Not a bad book by any means but I think not for me.
