I really enjoyed this book - it was fast paced and the story was constantly unrevealing new parts to the plot.

I really liked how this book used multiple POVs (Laura, Maisie, Seraphine and the trial) and time periods (July 1999; January and August 2000; November and December 2019) to show what had happened in the past, which slowly crossed over in the future (2019). It also showed how the past had influenced the future with the choices that the characters made.

I love how it uses mixed media within the book to help develop the story - there’s newspaper articles, a thread that discusses Seraphine’s disappearance (I loved the references in the thread names, for example, therealslimshady - iconic; pinkyandthebrain - American TV show; justlikejessiejames - reference to Jessie J?; OzzyB - Ozzy Osborne reference?), a transcript from a podcast and a transcript of evidence given in trial.

I did guess some of the twists within this book as they were a bit obvious to me but I was still shocked at others. However, I did think that the ending happened a bit too quickly - it wasn’t left enough time to truly simmer and pack a bigger punch. I also didn’t really understand some of the choices that the characters made within this book.

I really liked Jenny’s writing - I found it easy to engage with and it kept me captivated, wanting to know what will happen next. I also loved how she made the chapters short because you can fly through this book.

Error - pg 89, should it not be Maisie startled instead of “Maisie started, not expecting to see them”? It doesn’t make sense.

⚠️ TWs: sexual situations; mentions satanism, suicide, overdose, high profile cases in US (Manson family murders, Michelle Smith, McMartin preschool trials and Robin Hood Hills murders); car accident, murder, child abduction, drug use, physical assault, profanity, alcohol use, depression, kidnapping, stalking, gun, coercive control and rape ⚠️
