Knowing what we know of Finn, it's no surprise that his initial reaction to his father's adoption of Gin was less than enthusiastic. It's equally unsurprising that he came around. B/c FINN.

In this short, told from his POV, we get a firsthand account of those early days, including Gin's seamless transition into assassin-in-training.

ALSO:

I got to my feet, grabbed my leather jacket off the stool next to me, and put it on. It was the second jacket that I’d bought in as many weeks. Gin had given my first one away to some homeless kid, just plucked it off the coat rack in the restaurant like it was hers instead of mine.

REMEMBER THAT.

This is a very short story told from Finnegan Lane's point of view. (Finn is the son of Fletcher Lane, Gin Blanco's mentor in the Elemental Assassin series.) In this story, we get a lot of insight into the character of Finn, but we also see some of Gin's past as well. This story showcases the fact that she is an extremely loyal person, and that she seeks the approval of her now adopted family. I liked seeing how the relationship between Finn and Gin both developed and changed from the main novel. It was also an introduction to some of the characters that worked in the Pork Pit and was an enlightening read.

Series: Elemental Assassin #0.1
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

This was a very short story with Gin and Finn as children. Finn is struggling to cope with Gin being in their lives and her being trained as an assassin instead of him. I liked that we see the change in his view and that he finally starts seeing her as a sister.

I loved this story! Told from 15-year-old Finn's point-of-view, it gave us a glimpse of Gin not long after Fletcher Lane took her in, when she was 13.

We learned that Finn wasn't too happy about Gin's insertion into their lives, that he was jealous his dad was training her to follow in his assassin footsteps.

But by the end, he understood his father's choice and decided to be more accepting of Gin in their lives. And I cried. It was really very touching. :-)
