As someone who watched the films first and loved them, I can confidently say the books are SO much better. I loved all the little details and plot points that the film missed and just the description of Tris’ emotions that couldn’t be translated to film.
One piece of advice I would give if you are reading this after watching the films is that the characters of Tris and especially Four are (in my opinion) very different to the books compared to the films. I would recommend starting the books with this in mind and you will enjoy it and relate to the characters better.
Even if you haven’t watched the films, oh my goodness I would recommend this book to anyone. Cant wait to read the next one.

I would recommend that everyone even remotely interested in YA Dystopia should pick this book up at some point. Experiencing the book for the first time is a memorable experience, one that a lot of people can get something from.

I still enjoy the main plot of the factions, Divergence, mystery of rumours of overthrowing the government, and Four/Tris' relationship.
The writing is ok with a fairly fast pace, but can be repetitive, especially around Tris' thoughts and feelings.
It's a great third part, fast paced, exciting and emotional.
The main thing that annoys me is despite Tris
Spoiler
finding out that she is Divergent and being EXPLICITLY told to stay in the middle of the group, rather than drawing attention to herself by being at the top of the rankings, she does nothing to pretend that she is not aware that she is in a simulation in the second round of initiation. So she does come top of the rankings, again with the results of the third round, and this appears to have no impact. She doesn't acknowledge the danger she's in and it is hardly mentioned by anyone else later.Overall a decent dystopian, YA novel and leaves you intrigued for the next in the series.
