The BFG is thirty years old this year so it seemed like a good idea to finally read it. I cheerfully bought it for my kids years ago but never realised how potentially scary it was. A giant arm reaching into a child's bedroom and plucking her out of her bed to gobble her up! A giant cucumber that tastes of frog skin and rotten fish! Politically incorrect statements about nearly every country in the world. Just as well I didn't read it back then because I might have censored it and deprived my kids of a hopscotchy, razztwizzling experience. They tell me now that the BFG was one of their favourite books.

Funny Gulliver-like story about an endearing but misunderstood giant. I've read this to my children, who appreciated it very much.

I don’t remember reading this book as a kid, but I loved it as an adult. The BFG is the Big Friendly Giant who blows dreams into children’s rooms while they are sleeping - a stark contrast to the other giants, who eat children! I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to comparing it to the movie!

I decided to re-read this since the movie is coming in a couple of weeks, and I forgot how great it is. While I was reading, I would randomly read sentences out loud to my husband because they giant's language is so entertaining and can't go unshared. This is definitely my favorite Roald Dahl book. I can't wait to see the movie now.

I loved how charming, funny and imaginative this story was! I kept thinking how I'm going to read this story to my future child someday.
The audiobook was great, David Walliams did a good job reading it and I appreciated the sound effects accompaning the story.

This one surprised me. It was adorable how they made him talk and his relationship with Sophie. It was creative and whimsical. Even the weird race stuff actually wasn't so bad and it could have been really bad really essily but instead it felt innocent and like how a child would think. It felt like a fairy tale.
