Absolutely

I absolutely loved every minute of this book! Strong female character determined to make a place in this world for herself. I can not wait to read book #2!!!! I hope Rafe and Vy overcome everything. The writer did an excellent job at writing this book. I felt like I was living in the chapters

I enjoyed this read way more than I originally thought I would, I'm usually not one for Slowburn but the angst and character development make up for it. I really loved the way the author made me feel connected to her character, there was one part that I related so much with our FMC that I sat and cried for her struggle. This book really gave me all the feels, I laughed and cried and at one point or two I wanted to throw my kindle across the room😅😂

The FMC Avyanna is strong minded, stubborn, kind and knows exactly what she wants. The MMC, General Rafe, is a grumpy ashhole who acts like he doesn't have a soft spot for Avyanna but he definitely does.

The world building & politic explanation in this book make it all the better, Avyanna deals with a lot of backlash for doing things she as a woman shouldn't. Even if she doesn't do it well she jumps right back up and tries again, I personally loved this the most about this book because a lot of times we have FMC who are "perfect" and get things right immediately or have trained their whole lives for something. Whereas with Avyanna she literally threw herself in the deep end and struggles to keep up but she never once gives up.

The story line & plot are 5/5
There isn't any smexy in this book but like I said the angst is top notch.
Character development 5/5
Overall it's a 5/5 ⭐

This is the first book in a while I couldn't predict what was going to happen next so for that reason alone I will forever recommend this. It's different but in an amazing way!!

This book was a decent read! I've read a few reviews comparing it to Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, but I wouldn't compare them to each other in my opinion. M. A. Frick does a nice job letting you connect with the characters in their story. You can easily get attached to the main characters and supporting characters. I REALLY enjoyed their descriptions on depression, it felt real and raw and emotional. I could feel the pain the main character was going through. There are many great aspects to this read that I enjoyed.

The story felt a bit slow to me though. The story is mainly in one specific place (
a barracks training ground) and it felt a little too small for my fantasy reading heart. It has a very slow burning romance, and that's not a bad thing! Overall though, a good story so far!

Such a unique story of a girl trying to push past boundaries and make her own way.  The world building in this first book is just amazing.  I loved the tension and slow burn.  I loved the dragons!  Great book!!

ARC REVIEW - I was given an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I could not put this book down, this book lived rent free in my head and was a very enjoyable read.

Wonderful world building, great characters and I enjoyed the pace of the book.

Very much looking forward to book 2!

WOW.. just wow!! This book was so good.. I didn't know what to expect since I haven't heard much about this book before. I'm really glad I gave it a chance because I could not put it down! The challenges she faces and the things she has to overcome drew me in right away.. I felt for her and the struggles she faced trying to prove herself. The ending was not what I expected and ended on a really good cliffhanger! I can't wait to read the next book

I absolutely LOVED this book! It's very reminiscent of Fourth Wing, and I love the vibe. A lot of angst, adventure, sexual tension, and of course, DRAGONS! Enemies - to - Lovers, age gap, some dark mental themes. the plot was amazing. Not really for someone looking for just spice, I would rate the spice .5/5 chilis, it's more sexual tension and slow burn.
