9/11...Australian outback, Brighton and....dead women. What a combo!

My sister-in-law passed me this book to read, which she picked up as it is predominantly based near where she lives, so lots of places to be recognised. This is the fist time I've read a book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I would love to go back and read the first three now to get a bit of background on Roy Grace. That said, it did fairly well as a stand alone book, so thank sis for passing the book on.

A woman in hiding, a body in a storm drain, a man believed to have died in the 9/11 disaster and a body found in a submerged car in Australia. Peter James weaves all these stories together to create a fantastic read. The Roy Grace series just gets better and better, Looking forward to reading the next one.

It's been a while since I've read any Peter James, so it took me a little while to get back into the Roy/Cleo/Sandy sub-plot.
I found this novel a little confusing, and I prefered the modern day plot to Ronnie Wilson's plot set in 2001. It took me a while to see the links between the different plots, but was still confused at the end as to how Abby fitted into everything.

Olipas mainiota luettavaa! Tarinan polveilu useammassa aikatasossa ja useammalla mantereella toi haasteensa lukukokemukseen, mutta juoni pysyi silti hyvin kasassa. Kirjassa kuvatut syyskuun 11. päivän tapahtumat toivat déjà-vu -tyyppisen tunteen, ja muistin, että Don DeLillon Putoavan miehen tapahtumat ajoittuvat saman päivämäärän WTC-terrori-iskuihin. Minulla oli pitkä tauko Roy Grace -sarjan lukemisessa, mutta täytyypä jatkaa Jamesin lukemista, useampikin kirja odottaa tbr-hyllyssä.

The beginning leaves you with so many questions and working out how these two time periods are ever going to link. Kept me very engaged and puts Roy Grace back on track after not loving the previous two books.

One star, and that's just for the pacing. How this is highly reviewed is beyond me. Cut-out characterisations that are flimsy at the best of times.
Near juvenile sexism, for fucks sake not every single female character has to be leggy, dressed up and alluring for the male characters to ogle at, objectify and delude themselves over.
And again there is a need for some serious editing as well as turning of Peter James' copy and paste ability (Wholesale repeating of passages from earlier books.)
I'm beginning to see why Sandy left Roy. And I don't blame her.
First book I have given up on in years.
And like Sandy, I will not be going back to Roy.

"Op sterven na dood is een goed geconstrueerd verhaal dat ik enorm graag en snel uitgelezen heb. Het hield me in de ban, verveelde geen seconde en was goed geschreven. Kortom, weer een topboek van Peter James!"
