„I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them.“

If you keep in mind that I had to read this for school, my five star rating is almost world changing. But here we are, and I really honestly enjoyed this book. I really like how the author managed to explain Christopher’s thoughts to the reader so that they seemed logical. I feel like now when I might meet people that are similar to Christopher, maybe I can understand them a little better. I love reading books that teach me something new or give me insight on a character with experiences totally different from mine. That is one of the reasons why I enjoyed this book so much. The messiness that mirrored Christopher’s thoughts and the math problems that I did not understand but that were still an important part are some of the things that make this books so genius. Thanks for writing this and for giving me the chance to expand my horizon.

While in 2003, the book was praised for autistic representation - the author's claim that he did not research the topic while writing the book is apparent while reading. Despite this, the book is an easy read, with a unique writing style and the twist is presented excellently.

An inspiring story narrated by an autistic teenager as he navigates large challenges and solves a mystery. Clever and respectful, this book pots you in that boys shoes and is a unique book narrator that is both eloquent and engaging.

The trigger warnings are from an autistic perspective so while still can be upsetting these have a uniquely informative perspective, less emotional upset and more logical analysis of situations and disgust at things that trigger the narrator, and there narrator's response to being upset.

mixed feelings about this book as someone on the spectrum, definitely related to the main character a lot but the amount of abuse he suffers from his family, which isn't properly condemned imho made me incredibly uncomfortable. yeah, wouldn't reccomend it to other people on the spectrum, definitely found it triggering

I found this book funny and cool when I first read it at 11 years old, but since then I have grown up and come to realise that it wasn't that great.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT

Christopher is treated with mingled pity and irritation by the author, to the extent that his father is portrayed as 'the reasonable parent' (he hits Christopher at several points. That's literal child abuse.) The portrayal of autism is accurate in places, but in others comes off as stereotyped and poorly researched. In summary, if you're gonna write a book where the adults treat a child like shit, don't imply that it's justified bc their disability is 'just so hard to deal with'.
