Honestly more enjoyable than I thought it would be. It’s kind of like one of those romcom movies you would watch when there is nothing else on TV.
I really liked the friendship between Liya and her girls. I would love to read love stories about Preeti, Sana and Reema (or I guess how she would navigate marriage with Rohan.)
Both Liya and Jay were alright as main characters, but they definitely had their faults. Liya, bless her soul, was a little too headstrong and it made her come off as annoying at times. Jay also tried to seem too much like a “not all men…” guy which was a bit offputting. But honestly besides that they were fun characters and they had a good dynamic when they weren’t being all horny. 😭
The writing was a bit cringe too, but overall not a bad read? I guess?

Love loved it. They didn’t rush the love story it was built on over months. There was character growth and healing. I loved how the male lead wasn’t intimidated by my girl boss and he never tried to deep her light. He was also patient but also knew when to push loved the balance.

3.5 stars (for its genre). Believable modern characters made this one better than average.

This took me a little while to get into but the chemistry was believable between Liya and Jay. I thought the side storyline dragged a bit and it was so obvious I really don’t know why Jay was shocked lol. An important topic and I thought it was handled alright. It could have been useful to have some more depth, but given everything covered I think it was satisfactory. The feminist view in this was pretty narrow.
I think if you’re gonna write a book where sex is such an important theme, you can’t really shy away from writing a sex scene. I didn’t even realise it had happened until she was chatting with her friends about it. But a very ok book!

Generally this was an enjoyable read. I just had a few problems with it that spoiled what would've been a very good read.
1) Liya's back story is colored by her rape at age 15 by a community member. I just didn't like how this was resolved. If this man raped one child, I'm guessing it happened to others. And there was no mention of this aspect of the situation. And in no way was this aspect resolved.
2) This was a slow-burn romance with lots of talk about Liya's sex life. Now I normally am happy letting an author decide how explicit they wish to be, but Patel set up a story with some sex and a strong slow burn leading up to it. But when the two finally got together, it was as if the author lost several pages of the book. We went from the beginning of the scene to....nothing. I honestly thought it didn't happen until Liya admitted to it when chatting with her friends. Now if the author is afraid to write a sex scene then she shouldn't write a book requiring one!
