This book was really fun! I did not know what to expect going into it but I'm actually very glad about that. It's a fun story with secrets and twists and mysteries that made it very entertaining to read. Did everything always make total sense? No absolutely not, but that wasn't what I wanted from this book anyways. It deals with topics like domestic abuse and chronic illness but not in great depth which still makes it feel like a fun mystery book for a younger audience (though not necessarily just them). I am definitely curious to keep reading and to see where this story goes next. There are still a lot of questions that I want answered so hopefully I will enjoy the second book as much as I did this one. :)

This was really good, I read through it in less than 7 hours I think, and I really enjoyed it. My biggest complaint was in some ways you could tell it's YA, but other than that I'm really looking forward to reading the next book.

While I enjoyed reading this, I didn't like the focus on Emily and her shenanigans.

Like a mix between The Westing Game and Veronica Mars if they took place in the Winchester House. Perfect mystery puzzle without any unnecessary scenes. Every clue is important throughout the story in one way or another. One of my favorites I've read and one of the few books I think is worth marking up a copy with notes and highlights to keep track of the drama! The romantic triangle is an interesting touch, again reminiscent of Veronica Mars. Doesn't disrupt the progress of the plot though nor hinge all the plot on that aspect.

Nice mystery / escape room style read. Short chapters worked well and kept the pace of the book nice and quick. I have to say I did work out a key part of the plot really early on but it didn't take away any of the enjoyment.

I would have enjoyed learning a bit more about the Hawthorn brothers as it feels like they all have interesting stories behind them. I also felt some parts of the story were kind of brushed over / rushed past when I had hoped for a bit more info.

Overall really enjoyable read and looking forward to picking up the next in the series.

I really liked all of the riddles and the mistery, and I alao liked that for me, as somebody who doesn't fit into the age group of young adults anymore the dialogues and actions of the characters weren't too cringey.
I also liked that the story was very engageing and allthough I'm usually not a big fan of books that don't have a set ending and are basically just smaller parts that make a series more digesteable I'm definitly hooked and I'll start the next part right away.
A very refreshing and quick read for me.
