bonus point for "kino" and "samsa in love", the other short stories were pretty forgettable

not as insightful as murakami usually is when it comes to romance. not enough loneliness, too much polygamy. 🤷‍♀️

DNF audiobook @ 18%. Mind-numbingly boring and utterly pointless collection IMO.

"That’s what it’s like to lose a woman. And at a certain time, losing one woman means losing all women. That’s how we become Men Without Women"

Men Without Women is collection of seven short-stories about Men and the impact the women in their life have left, some by leaving them heartbroken, some to death, some by just being a quirky part of their lives. It's about how these connections have left an imprint on their lives, with the typical Murakami twist. Whimsical and wry, just the way he always does.

This was my fourth Murakami book, but the favourite so far. It had short stories, an interesting title and the Murakami charm to it. And I loved it.
My favourite story would be "An independent organ", which started like any other story, but the end made me cry. "Drive my car", "Scheherazade" ,"Yesterday" and the titular story were good. Samsa in love and Kino being my least favourites.
I feel if you want to start with Murakami, this is that one book I would suggest or Sputnik Sweetheart if you're not into short stories.

I picked this book when I was on a Murakami spree during the initial phase of pandemic and loved it.
There were some or the other elements in these stories that kept me hooked or connected with me/ touched my soul which is why it became an instant favourite and earned my 5-star rating.

nothing extraordinary but oddly comforting all the same, it made me want to write and that is the highest compliment i can give to a book.

all the stories couldn't be perfect enough . from the top of my head . The short story Yesterday is my favourite as it quite similar to what me and a friend of mine's friendship situation , me being the main character and my friend , Kitaru . But I also feel like I share the same struggle as Kitaru being lost in a layout of options education wise and not knowing what to do , yet not admitting the issue . I'm in my senior year of high school and have not figured out a single shit on what the future holds and am just passing by the days with reading and reading . It's a problem I'm not ready to face as I don't want to do the norm yet I am afraid to face the consequences since technically nothing has happened.

Another favourite is An Indipendent Organ . It is inevitable that I wonder am I gonna enjoy just living life like what society has moulded for me since I am too afraid to crack the mould and would rather just follow what is provided yet I worry that its too late to live the life I trully want . I know its too early I guess to think about it but I hold a huge responsibility in my family being the eldest and stability is all I ask . This story specifically made me close my book for quite a while , stuck in my thoughts of is this inevitable . I'm not saying depriving myself is the path but am afraid I revert to those old habits when I'm barely clinging onto life .

Murakami's short stories never fails to comfort me and if you are pondering on where to start , here is a comfortable ground .
