A dazzling contemporary adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac. The text is poetic and poignant, with Cyrano's flaws being highlighted. Indeed, Roxane's manipulation by the men is given the significance she deserves.

Yet, this still has its drawbacks. For instance, Roxane's false assault allegation gives condemnable credence to such allegations and the play's criticism of free speech feels half-baked. As we know, such 'free speech' advocates in today's society tend to be people wishing to speak hate.

Really lovely to read after watching the production in April. Will add some quotes if that’s still a feature on this thing.

I saw this play in March 2022 and it is one of the most amazing performances I’ve ever seen in a theatre. A lot of that was to do with James Mcavoy as Cyrano - watching him from the very front row was watching a masterclass in acting - but also a lot to do with the fast paced dialogue.

I ordered the play script soon after seeing it but never got round to reading it.

Picked it up to relive the show and found I was able to picture the exact scenes and nuances in acting.

Absolutely phenomenal script. Loved it!

I saw the play in NT Live and fell in love with the dialogue I just had to read it. Beautiful always timely ideas of objectification, beauty and the power of words. Totally worth a read.
