I just loved the way the author wrote it. All of the descriptions contributed to the overall ambience of the book. You could actually feel the emotions and situation that the characters are in. I love Leigh Bardugo. It was in fact triggering but it wasn’t a problem for me.

This book left me speechless.
Leigh Bardugo is an instant buy and read author for me and this book didn’t disappoint (even if I put it off for years).
I think this is her most well crafted book I’ve read (and I’ve read everything but Hell Bent). The use of time and perspective change allowed the characters to leap from the page and be seen as the full people they are. The size of the cast was perfect, allowing some to be side characters while the main cast dominated the page in a captivating way.
I also love a messy and brutal woman so you can bet Alex is a new beloved character of mine.

This book made me sick to my stomach at every turn of the page, made my skin crawl, and cry over fates I already knew. I can’t wait for Hell Bent!

The ending was quick and messy in a perfect way. It had me reeling and guessing always at what came next. I can’t wait for the gentleman Demon 🤭😍.

Read your trigger warnings! ⚠️
First three quarters were disappointing, the ending is atrocious???
Sorry but ... Feels like a waste of time.

Really really enjoyed this! Excited to read the sequel. One point that did irk me though was the references to white cotton gloves being used in handling rare books and materials. That’s false! No longer are they typically used because they dampen the dexterity of the fingers and can cause more damage to materials than clean hands can. Anywho, that’s just my one irk cause I work with rare books.

Fun read! I've not read much occult/magic realism before, but I quite liked this excursion into the genre. It took me a while to truly get hooked, but once the story got me, I found it hard to put down.  The prologue felt a bit cheap and didn't necessarily add much tension to the story and it takes nearly until the end for the story to catch up. Overall it seems like a fairly straightforward whodunnit, but it remains enjoyable throughout.

The book throws graphic descriptions of stuff like rape and abuse at you kinda out of nowhere, so maybe don't pick this book if you're looking for something light.

I really like the characters, the writing and the world building, but this book would not let up on the abuse, SA, and constant bleak/grim violence against its characters. The tone is occasionally unbearable to the point of sometimes skipping large chunks of text that are just the author describing the particular manner in which a character is being brutalized this chapter. The magic system is really cool and the creativity in the world design is spectacular. I am glad I got through it cause I quite liked the ending and the answers it brought, but fuck was it a dark and dreary trudge to get there.
