Enemies to almost (forbidden) lovers and back to enemies? Definitely starting the 2nd book ASAP. I wasn't a fan of the graphic audio version of it but the story in itself was a very fun, very modern take on fae and humanity by including references to reality TV and the like.

Like a 3.75 really, but cute and really hit the literary spot, so to speak. This is fluffy and really more of a romance than a fantasy, but there’s enough world building to support the story, i.e. ‘The Bachelor but with a bunch of murderous faeries’. It’s frequently funny and doesn’t take itself super seriously and was a nice palate cleanser after grim and high stakes.

Tldr; if you like descriptive writing, seelie/unseelie vibed fairy fantasy, and competition setting trope, I'd recommend picking this up.

.....

So I very much vibe with this writing style. Pretty wordy and descriptive but I love this. It felt really vivid and immersive without feeling repetitive.

I'm a massive fan of any competition style media, so loved the plot setup.

Some things that usually bug me were in here, but because of HOW it was written I actually enjoyed it. I.e. miscommunication, no we can't be together drama, FMC good at something previously not shown, predictability. See why this was ok in spoilers for mild spoilers.
miscommunication - we're in both characters heads so can see why each thinks that way and their reactions are believable. And it's not reeeally miscom. it's "I can't tell you".
This also explains the "we can't be together". Very valid reasons and responses/conclusions drawn by both parties.
FMC prior skills - she's not suddenly good at something, the skill is convenient but still believable, and she does train to be better/not suddenly amazing.
Predictability - so the reveal was like a "yes I knew it finally I've been waiting for this" moment, and not a "yeah I guessed that big whoop" moment. Might not be for you but it was for me

The FMC and MMC are fairly classic examples of fantasy leads, not especially unique, but they were likeable, as were the side characters.

Excited to read the next book!

I was lucky enough to be able to purchase an extra stock of an arc copy.

This book is fantastic. It’s Oct 1 and not even released yet and I’m anxiously awaiting book 2.

Enemies to lovers, hunger game/red queen like trials, and a fantastic friendship between a main and side character (this is so often overlooked in romance). The main character is quick in her feet and quippy. Fantastic read. Highly recommend.

I tend to read quickly. And now I’m upset because the next book doesn’t come out for another month and a half! Interested to see where this goes.
