Although Lilly was very annoying for some of the book, it was a good read! A short story about Christmas in Genovia. The ending was very cute!

I really hate every single book in this series--they all read like an idle 1997 IM chat session between two 13 year-olds. No matter how old Mia gets it's still the same tone, no growth or maturity.

Okay, so I finished this book around January 14th... AND I'm just now getting time to write the review. Talk about being super freaking busy. Stupid life and work getting in the way of reviews. Have no fear - Alaina is here and I am going to write reviews for all of the books that I've read and never got the chance to write a good/bad review for the entire month of January!

Okay, so The Princess Present was a very short novella and I loved every second of it because it was short. I'm trying really hard not to read anymore books from this series because I just cannot handle or deal with Mia being annoying allllllllll the god damn time. To top it all off, she was the only one annoying me in this book. Nope, there's freaking Lilly now. Can I just get one book out of this entire series where a character doesn't rub me the wrong way? PLEASE?

Then there's Michael, who I really don't care about. The whole gift exchange was meh and super predictable. I'm glad this book is over. I'm ecstatic that my last book in this series (that I'm going to read this month/year/decade/ever?) was a freaking novella.

This is the one installment in the series I do not own, and therefore have not read more than once before this reread. I picked it up from the library remembering literally nothing about it, and was pleasantly surprised. I love that this takes place in Genovia and that Michael and Lily come to the palace for Christmas to visit, as it fleshes out the country more and synthesizes Mia's New York and royal life. Lily does some truly appalling things that beg the question of WHY Grandmeré doesn't put a stop to her once and for all, considering she's so power-crazy and all. This novella is based heavily on the tale of The Gift of the Magi, and it was cute to see how it reflected the traditional holiday story. It was also extremely entertaining to read not-so-subtle cameos of the debauchery real young royals get into while in Genovia. 3.5/5 Stars

Libro fácil de leer, me encanta Mia y Michel pero Lilly, no gracias. Ni la abuela fue tan insoportable como ella.

Mia and Michael are just the cutest couple ever, and that Genovian party was a delightful disaster. Fun!

Princess Mia spends Christmas in Genovia with Grandmère and this year, her boyfriend, Michael, and her best friend, Lilly, are coming to Genovia, too.

This is a short novella in a series of Princess Diary books so I want to make it clear that I have never read any of the books. I read this one as part of my search for Christmas books for teens and this one came up.

There is nothing wrong with the book, so I included it on my "recommended" Christmas books for teens, but it also wasn't a great story - unless maybe you are a fan of this series. As someone who hasn't read the Princess Diary books, I had no connection to the character except through the movies so it was hard to get lost in the story. It felt short, choppy, and disconnected which is probably due to the fact that is written as journal entries.

Lilly is a pretty insufferable character. She is rude, immature, and mean. When called out on her actions, she doubles down on them, including the fact that she got a man fired because of a relationship situation with him.

There is nothing horribly inappropriate in the book other than a few references to the King's girlfriend who is a lingerie model. There is an unflattering description of her job on page 28 and someone refers to her as a skank early on.

Overall, it was a quick, short read that might entertain a fan but wasn't quite so entertaining for me.
