God this book was beautiful. Each story was so compelling and held so much emotion. I truly can't recommend this book more. De Beauvoir has this remarkable capability to transport you into the mind of her incredibly dynamic characters, and regardless of right or wrong every character has a relatable and charming arc. Just read this book, it so perfectly encapsulates that "female rage" phenomena in a more eloquent way than I have ever read.

The final story should have stood alone. The first story was fine, the second I could hardly get to, but it is the third story, the title story, that is the best. I have never felt such anger and despair while reading a story. The narrator deserved so much more but her story is that of millions of women who are stuck with the whims of unfaithful husbands. When they object to the unfaithfulness they are cast aside by friends and family for silly notions of how men should act in matrimony. Truly a dismal painting of a marriage but one that reflects the realities of loving men who only love themselves.
