A haunting tale which spans decades and captures the imagination. I enjoyed the inclusion of the supernatural in what could have been a simply good mystery/romance story.

The villains were pretty standard but believable as jealous men of different lots in life. Wish we'd gotten some clue as to their fates, but I suppose we don't hear about many characters' futures.

Maybe I'm reading too far, but I thiiiink there's a hint of Lucy being gay or ace? But could just be young teen growing up vibes.

Otherwise this book does nothing in terms of inclusion, even needlessly including multiple slur references to Romani peoples...

And frankly the ending was a little disappointing - don't think we ever learned what happened when Lauren visited the house, plus Lucy concealing everything?

I have read everything by Kate Morton. I always enjoy them. Her vivid pictures and captivating style draw me in. Predictably, this pulled me in. However, I found myself missing our initial protagonist as the middle stretched on. While I can see why it was necessary to introduce multiple points of view within the development and presentation of the mystery, it left me slightly unsatisfied at the end. Nevertheless, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I cannot remember why I wanted to read this book but I am not sorry I did.
It turned out to be quite a good read (pun intended).
4 ⭐️ because I guessed the ending

3.5 stars. I liked how the author weaves together timelines and the characters but it was also quite lengthy where in my opinion it did not need to be at times. An enjoyable listen!

I would have liked to know more of some characters and a bit more of why the house had such an attraction in the first place. I found the story difficult to get into at first and hard to follow all the changes of time and viewpoint. In the end it all came together but with less depth than I would have liked due to the sheer number of characters.

What a beautiful story about the fluidity of time and the magic of light. It was heartbreaking and soulful and I needed more.
