This book was amazing. The first couple chapters were slow but after that I was hooked!! I loved the twists it kept taking and I loved that they all had such cool powers. I’m obsessed with Grim and I’m so so sad she did not choose him, like he did all that stuff for her and I don’t know how she couldn’t see it, plus the king gave me the ick so I was not pleased. She better go back to Grim in book 2, id love to see them burn the world together.

First of all, this ISNT a romance book it’s mostly plot related with some romance mixed in, don’t get it twisted. If you’re a skimmer you’re going to get confused about the world building etc because books like this you need to pay attention. It’s not super confusing but there are several realms and different magical abilities. I really enjoyed this book, I like Alex Asters writing and found it easy to fall in love with the characters. The magic system intrigued me immensely. Again.. this is not smut.. so if that’s what you’re looking for don’t read this book.

I honestly really enjoyed this book up until the last quarter. I feel like it had so much potential, and the buildup was so fantastic, but the ending kind of felt both rushed, and flat. Things that could have been brought up much earlier, that would have had the same shock value, were brought up so close to the ending that they felt like an afterthought. I feel like Alex has a way with words and does a great job of world building, but it kind of set readers up for this fantastical ending that I didn't feel.

I know this is a controversial opinion, but I loved this book. It made me feel so many different emotions the whole time. The big reveals at the end (no spoilers) actually blew my mind. And now looking back there were so many small details that i missed that make so much sense. absolutely loved this book.
