this was strange, i didnt understand most of the meandering and half finished short stories (essays? anecdotes) not sure what to call them.

A collection of short stories filled with sadness, longing, love, passion and all of our human grace and foibles. Beautifully written, there are no wasted words.

I won this book from Goodreads. I was excited because the description spoke so highly of the author's writing.

His style is not to my liking. Most of the stories didn't seem like short stories but random vignettes including a few that were one or two paragraphs long. The whole book seemed like a rambling collection of thoughts without plot, character development, or dialogue.

I did like the story about Horace and Josephine. It was the only story that I felt had definition. I also liked the mention of Massachusetts details. Some of the brief descriptions/references reminded me of scenes from my childhood.

An enjoyable collection of stories. They are emotionally evocative and easy to enter into. As a writer, they were excellent examples of short, meaningful pieces that work on the mind and the heart without the need to be dense or obscure.

It's pretty dark and depressing collection. it does end slightly more upbeat - but only slightly. it's a work I can appreciate but preferably from a distance.
