At first I didn't like the book. The prologue is written in a different voice, third person, and that isn't as readable or enjoyable as the rest of the book. The book is a quick read and an overview of Neal Cassady's life. It was fun to read more about Cassady's life, in a almost certainly fictionalized way, similar to Kerouac's and different enough to be its own book.

I don't find Cassady's writing to be as appealing as some of the other beat generation authors, but I think it's a worthwhile read for those who are already interested in/somewhat familiar with the genre.

I think Neal was a better writer than Jack Kerouac. Just don't stone me please! I still love Jack but just Neal missed the madness, that Jack had

Not great. I'd venture to say that the only reason 90% of the people who read it do so is because Neal Cassady wrote it. I guess it's easy to forget that he was a force of nature more so than a writer.
