DNF..

Started out ok, then there was a lot of reference to a boy who obviously has Down syndrome, even though there was no mention, he was called the R word & was used multiple times when there was no need, he was supposed to be the main 4 guys friend.

Later there was use of racial slurs and more use of the R word. This was really jarring and made me upset.

This book dragged on, was repetitive and definitely could have ended way earlier.

Having seen the movie when I was a kid, I found it’s mystery and sci-fi/horror elements to be exciting and intriguing. That’s why, reading this book, I was looking for answers to all the holes and flaws in the movie. By and large, the book provided them. But at the same time, I found it to be much more flawed than I’d hoped for, especially in its slowness (it was way too long) and its oddly anti-climactic ending. I found the conceptual aspect of the aliens compelling, but I just felt sort of let down by the end.

I seriously don’t know what the Dreamcatcher represents. It was a good science fiction novel, the monster seemed stupid and like it could have been a little more creative in what it is described as looking like. Lots of good characters and symbolism. If I knew the purpose of the Dreamcatcher it would be rated higher, I’m gonna have to google what it means.

The book is pretty long. It felt like it took me forever to read it. Some parts are unnecessarily long, but for the purpose of expanding upon the backstory that is needed for the five main characters and their connection. It was a really cool book, but I just feel like it took so long to read lol
