2/5🌶️, MF, CR, time loop, emotional, anxiety/depression, Libby ebook (TW: mental health & suicide)

Oh wow. This book was an emotional rollercoaster, in the best possible way. This book is mostly a contemporary romance dealing with loving yourself and others, while living with anxiety and depression continuously telling you that you aren’t good enough, but with a small touch of magical realism/time-looping thrown in. It reminded me of The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston, in that way. The first third of this book was a bit slow for me, but after finishing the book, it made me appreciate the slow set up a little bit more. The story really picked up when the MCs were falling in love. The way the MMC cared for the FMC and made her feel appreciated and cherished was lovely. The FMC’s battle with anxiety and depression was heart wrenching and reading about her taking brave steps and reach out for help was encouraging. I really enjoyed reading about these two characters fall in love. The last 20% absolutely wrecked me. The ending was a bit abrupt, and I did wish for a bit more (but honestly, I don’t know if my heart could have taken it). This book isn’t a lighthearted romcom, despite the cover suggesting it might be; it is an emotional story, with a strong mental health journey component. I cannot believe it was the author’s debut novel either.

The logistics of the time travel didn't seem very well fleshed out for such a major point of the plot, but it didn't take away much. The book felt deeply relatable as someone with anxiety who also experiences panic attacks. Ewan is super, super sweet and Isla is honestly amazing as well. Deeply enjoyed this book, but do be careful for triggers.

read the reviews to this right after finishing it and it really is a mixed bag, huh? i'm kinda biased though because i naturally gravitate towards time travel books, and honestly, i enjoyed this a lot -- despite a few holes in the time traveling aspect.

i really appreciated the softness of the author's writing. this book carries some very serious topics about mental health, but the writing never felt harsh and sharp to me.

although ngl, it drove me a bit crazy to realize that i can relate to the inner workings of isla's mind more than i liked to admit. lmao

but ahhh i enjoyed the romance. it felt like a nice, warm hug. i know this book has sci-fi elements to it, but isla + ewan's relationship was refreshing to read about because it felt real to me somehow. like they could be real people... only both of them have time traveled separately at one point in time.
