At 160 pages this is barely a novel, more like a novelette. In this episode Hamish manages to cadge a free trip to a "health farm" where of course there is a murder. She is a bitch so you almost don't care. The important thing is Hamish manages to lose not one but two love interests in 160 pages.

I’m tired of waiting for this series to get somewhere. In general I like Hamish, but I dislike M.C. Beaton’s habit of undoing any progress from a previous book at the beginning of the next book. We always start back over from square one with the characters and relationships, goodbye to the growth and promise from the end of a previous book. It was like this in the series about Agatha Raisin too. I love a cozy mystery which is why I read so many, but I’m stopping now to read books with better character development and that handle female characters with more respect.

A pleasant entry in the Hamish MacBeth series. This book is set around Christmas and Hamish travels to a remote Scottish island to help the owner of a health farm who thinks someone is out to get her. The plotting and writing were fine and the narration by Shaun Grindell was well done.

The majority of the story is fine. Nice, mindless plot to check out of reality with. The Priscilla/Hamish plot annoys me sufficiently for this to he the last of the series I read. I cannot stand this type of plot device, and annoyance at a book is not what I'm looking for when seeking distractions

this was the first Hamish Macbeth book I have read, and yes I know I should have started at the first book in the series but whatever. could totally relate to Hamish on his deathbed with the cold.
