Väldigt fint språk, och jag älskar den historiska skildringen. Många kopplingar till kyrkohistorian som gör att man lär sig mycket utan att märka det.

Atmospheric, great story telling and great performance on Audible. Elements of Parcival and a good yarn, though at times slow - a bit too much exploration of religion and philosophy at times for me. And yes, the book is a prelude to traveling to the Holy Land. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

Way too many characters and most of them died before I could even figure out who they were. Good book but hard to follow. The only storyline easy to follow is that of Arn. But that is slooooow moving. I liked it well enough though to pick up the second book at that one is much better!

Will come back to it - just got busy and lost my rhythm with this book.

I came into the book with the wrong mindset.

After having watched, and loved, the miniseries based off this trilogy, I was hoping to read more about the romance between Arn and Cecilia. But that is not the case.

This is a historical story that has little dialogue to push the narrative flow along and reads more like nonfiction.

The majority of the story focuses on a slow burn between rivaling clans with Arn as Mary Sue used as an accidental participant.

Go into this with that expectation. Jan has clearly done tireless research on the people and their lives during this time. If you’re a fan of obscure medieval history, it is worth a read.
