Lyra's a very charming child. The story and the characters are magical, especially the bears š I love how much this is truly a children's book and she has so much agency. Children and bears save the world. Wooo!
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Child death, Violence, and Kidnapping
Moderate: Physical abuse

This edition, read by the author with characters voiced by a larger cast, is good. It provides a little bit of cinematic flavor while still being the same text.

The plot ambled and the intensity/stakes kept seesawing with a lot of intensity. It took away from the impact of the ending. It felt like it was just another one of the big hurdles that had already happened and didnt feel particularly special.
I found the way some of the accents were written annoying.
Graphic: Child abuse, Child death, and Medical trauma
