This is a reread! I don't remember much about the book during my first read, seeing as I was a little kid when I read it the first time.

Lyra's a very charming child. The story and the characters are magical, especially the bears šŸ˜ I love how much this is truly a children's book and she has so much agency. Children and bears save the world. Wooo!

This is an excellent adventure story, populated with aeronauts and witches and armored bears, that is also the first installment of a trilogy that is much more than an adventure story.

This edition, read by the author with characters voiced by a larger cast, is good. It provides a little bit of cinematic flavor while still being the same text.

I really adored this book. The imagery was vivid and palpable. The child characters thought authentically like children which is lost in a lot of books.

Fun read. Enjoyed the magical imaginative universe. Thoroughly considered characters all around. Surprised at how much zeppelins are used. Witches, armored bears, and daemons oh my!

What a fun adventure! I was so invested in the characters and enjoyed hearing the cast's various backstories and interweaving narratives. The world is exciting and fresh.

The plot ambled and the intensity/stakes kept seesawing with a lot of intensity. It took away from the impact of the ending. It felt like it was just another one of the big hurdles that had already happened and didnt feel particularly special.

I found the way some of the accents were written annoying.

This was a really interesting book! I think the second part was where my interest faded a bit, but parts one and three were fantastic. I love Lyra and Iorek, and the other characters are definitely interesting! Iā€™m interested in seeing where the rest of this story goes.
