Interracial dating, dealing with grief, and when it's time to move on. The importance of communicating thoughts and feelings. One or two spicy scenes, the family birthday was an amazing scene and so real. Stubborn Father dealing with getting older and losing his independence.

Julie Tieu always manages to write sweet, diverse romances and I’m all here for it.

This book is filled with unappreciative coworkers and bosses, women in STEM, work friendships, crushes, fake dating, and some real feelings. But when families get involved things tend to take a turn – and they definitely did here.

Personally, I loved the characters in this book, and the plot, but I felt a bit of a disconnect from how the characters spoke to each other – and I want to specifically say that I think it’s due to cultural differences. Julie Tieu is fantastic at representing different and diverse cultures and with what I know about the cultures being represented, I think she did a phenomenal job. It’s just not how I tend to interact with people (again, different cultures), but that’s why we read, right? To expose ourselves to different environments, people, and experiences! And this book does all of these at the same time for me.

If you’re looking for a cute workplace romance with a strong and quirky female protagonist, this is definitely one for you!

The book was very milennial - a bit cringy at some points but otherwise about how I would imagine an office romance between 30-somethings. I liked that their relationship dealt with actual issues people go through while dating in their 30s, as well as that the relationship between the characters never got toxic. Not the best book I’ve ever read if I wanted something surprising, but overall a very comforting read.
Worth mentioning the family aspect as well - characters were very family oriented in a sweet and not overwhelming way :)

Very mellow romance. Only 2 sex scenes that were not very explicit (I would still recommend 18+). No real overall dilemma- more of a secret/miscommunication between main characters. Both main characters worked through their own separate dilemmas (promotions, bosses, difficult coworkers, and family drama). Cadence’s character development was very touching to follow. Working through her grief and her current relationships with her dad and her brother was very relatable and meaningful. I loved the realistic piggy back ride for Cadence given by Matt. Strong Asian representation (food, culture, language, family relations).

Special thanks to Netgalley and Avon and Harper Voyager Publishing for this digital ARC.
