Okay, for some reason, I enjoyed this book a lot more the second time around. It was such a hype when I first read it and I felt it fell flat for me. It was an anti-climactic read.

Reading it this time around, I focused more on the world building and found I could really appreciate the detail and thought that's been put into it. I also really enjoyed the banter between the characters. They were witty, sarcastic, and irreverent. And I laughed at a lot of the comebacks and conversations had.

What I think didn't work for me, as well as last time was the characters. Mostly the love interest between Clary and Jace. I don't know why, but I just don't feel it. They don't click for me. I remember enjoying all the characters individually and all of the characters eventual romantic relationships. But Clary and Jace don't feel right to me. And they are a BIG part of the story.

Still, I don't think it was as annoying as the first time. But then I've only just read the first book in a whole series. They might irk me again.

Overall, I enjoyed reading the story. The world building is great and so are the characters. It's definitely an action packed book with a lot going on in a short space of time, but the writing is still evenly paced throughout. There's no parts that are too slow or too quickly.

* Spoilers *

My only ick with this book is the whole romance to sibling thing. You know which one. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. I didn't even like it in Star Wars. It just doesn't sit right with me.

Well, it did get better, but it took its sweet time. I liked the world-building, and will probably read more of the books so I can get to know more about the world. It was great to see some more action, even if there was a hint of "main character is the best at things she's never tried before" in some of the scenes. At the same time, it was nice to see a teenage girl act like, well, a teenage girl - she got scared sometimes, when it made complete sense to be afraid.

Not the be-all, end-all of YA series, but enjoyable.

Primeira leitura do ano check ✔️

It took a long time for me to pick this book up--it's been on my list for forever--but I finally decided that this is the time, the year, to clear off my tbr shelves. While there were some things that annoyed me, overall it was a fun and exciting ride.

FINISHED IT IN ONE DAY!!! I bought the whole series but my mom won't even let me touch the second one because she doesn't want me to be up all night! It was amazing!! Complicated at points but I am so glad to have found another great series!

Ahhh, I'm so dissapointed that I already know Jace and Clary aren't brother and sister, it would've gotten me thinking for dayssss. The plot was a bit weaker than I expected it to be but this is Cassy's first book so I don't really mind. But honestly for her first book this is a pretty damn neat piece of work.
