You really get a good bang for your buck with this book, as there is a lot of content, and I think that was my favorite part of it. The chapters are fairly short and punchy, through the perspective of about eight different people, and each character goes on their own journey throughout the realm of Westeros. This book is lengthy and took me months to read, and although there is a lot to take in and the lore is complex, I never had trouble picking it back up. If I didn’t like one storyline, I could just read through to the next chapter and chances were there’d be something for me there. I really enjoyed most character’s perspectives, and even the more stale storylines were still great. There’s just so much to talk about with this book- after I got done reading it I found myself trying to relay the plot back to myself from start to finish, but there’s so much back story and information, I found it hard doing so, in the best way possible. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

Varys gave a long weary sigh, the sigh of a man who carried all the sadness of the world in a sack upon his shoulders. "The High Septon once told me that as we sin, so do we suffer. If that's true, Lord Eddard, tell me ...why is it always the innocents who suffer most, when you high lords play your game of thrones?"

A Song Of Ice And Fire still embodies what a perfect fantasy is to me (the charactes, the lore, the writing and the plot). I enjoyed every chapter of it. Though I could definitely do with less (or, better yet, none) descriptions of Daenerys's body and her sexual intercourses with Drogo.

First of all, this is the longest f*cking book that I have ever read. Was it good? I think so. Was it too long? I’d say so. What would I cut out? How the h*ll should I know? That’s for the producers at HBO to decide! That’s why they make the big bucks, hunny.

Thoroughly entertaining and well paced. For its genre, it succeeds on every level. There is political intrigue and deceit and betrayal and dragons and forbidden love and magic and nerdy sh*t like guys who say “methinks so, m’lord!”. It’s really firing on all cylinders.

I enjoyed it more than the show in many respects. There is an emotionality and tenderness to many scenes that is missing in the series because it’s “not exciting to see two brothers have a conversation about a big dog” or whatever. But it is exciting to me! And they should put that in there!

The thing that is tough is that these characters are literally children (aged up slightly in the show), and reading plot points about their physical relationships and sexuality was not fun. It’s not doing what it thinks it’s doing…

Overall, the goods far outweigh the bads. I mostly really enjoyed it.

I wanted to start this series because I loved the world that the show made, surprise surprise the world is so much more detailed and interesting. The series is all about characters and curiosity simply drives me to see how different the characters are, I have already spotted how body language is quite different and seeing each person’s perspective it really makes me rethink. Thanks to reading the book, I find it better since it gives more depth to the characters. I personally don’t like the ways that characters like Tyrion and Bran and any disabled person is described, Plus I know that it’s no surprise that the way people are described and talked about is like hot potato between characters.
