Everything fell very flat, not sure if it was because I already knew what was going to happen or if the characters themselves have paper thin personalities. I will say, the show is VERY faithful to the book, with the exception of the gratuitous sex and sexual violence which is, mercifully, mostly absent from the books. The same things I took issue with in the show, I also take issue with here, no surprise there. Dany being 13 still is really disgusting, not much to be done about that. Overall, lots of characters and action but seriously lacking any depth.

Loved it. It reads like the box set it would become. You can't put it down. The Wars of the Roses in a fantastical world with mythic beasts. Perfect

Game of Thrones creates a rich and in depth introduction to the world of a Song of Ice and Fire, with political intrigue, compelling characters and tragic endings. After not having read GOT for years, I enjoyed the tension in King's Landing, the horrors of the North and the emotional trauma, and definitely think it stands up to a re-read . Top characters include Jon for his determination, Ned for his integrity and Tyrion for his excellent humour. However, I felt some of the comments on some female characters' and Tyrion's bodies to be unnecessary.

You really get a good bang for your buck with this book, as there is a lot of content, and I think that was my favorite part of it. The chapters are fairly short and punchy, through the perspective of about eight different people, and each character goes on their own journey throughout the realm of Westeros. This book is lengthy and took me months to read, and although there is a lot to take in and the lore is complex, I never had trouble picking it back up. If I didn’t like one storyline, I could just read through to the next chapter and chances were there’d be something for me there. I really enjoyed most character’s perspectives, and even the more stale storylines were still great. There’s just so much to talk about with this book- after I got done reading it I found myself trying to relay the plot back to myself from start to finish, but there’s so much back story and information, I found it hard doing so, in the best way possible. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
