I did it. I read A Game of Thrones. I've done my homework. I watched the TV shows half-heartedly because good lord, people threw SO MANY spoilers EVERY SINGLE WEEK I just ended up knowing things prematurely, and the season finale just left a sour taste in my mouth. So that's the last push I needed to grab the book: I felt like I just have to know how it's told by Martin.
The only thing a person needs when reading the whole ASOIAF series is NOT to root for anyone. I don't know if Martin kills someone off because he felt like it or it's really necessary to move the plot forward, but no one is ever truly guaranteed happiness and safety.

So even I finally couldn't resist GoT any longer and I've got to say: I feared worse. I mean, sure many people die and there's a lot of rape and war scenes but I expected a lot worse. Actually not that many characters I got attached to died. Some almost died though (that was cruel enough).
I read this almost within a week - which is a really good sign considering we're talking about 800 pages here. So yeah, I'm going to say what I never expected to ever say: I'm kinda hooked on GoT now, too. Guess I'll keep reading then.

Interesting characters, engaging plots, and logical storyline are things I really want in a book. I got all that and more. I highly recommend this book and I'm glad it was recommended to me.

I read it. There are characters I thought were fantastic and savored every word. There were scenes that made no sense and seemed to be written for another story. I wanted to love this but all I can say is that I read it. Same review for rest of books in series.

Phenomenal!!!
I watched the series first and I'm glad I did. Honestly, if I'd taken a whack at this before that I wouldn't have made it and I wouldn't have bothered with the show. There are differences between the two, but not so that I like one more than the other.
The book blew me away. Martin's creation is beautiful and enamoring. I couldn't put this book down. I definitely have to collect the rest of the books. I can see why people are getting impatient for the newest book.
