while there’s certain writing choices i’m not fond of, this was an overall enjoyable read! very reminiscent of an 80s slasher flick with gore ramped up to the max. looking forward to scary bastard 2

I know that Chaz and Winston being left alive at the end is some sort of commentary on how the most evil and conniving people tend to come on top, but it was a pretty stupid ending. I can understand having an infuriating, sad ending like that; this is splatterpunk and happy endings are few and far in between. BUT the ending still ended up being kinda lackluster simply because it seems like both Jesse and Charles, good guys for the most part, also lived??? Maybe they wouldn't be hailed as heroes but they would still be courageous and smart survivors. It presented the opportunity for a perfect *bittersweet* ending. Yes Chaz and Winston, assholes that they are, get to live. But even though some bad guys come on top, good guys can live too, or something like that. Idk just my thoughts. Also, on an unrelated note, Aron's writing still kinda sucks. That's to be expected though. Random funny moments that break the tension entirely and what was practically Wattpad-quality sexual content being the most egregious. Like Aron, seriously, you are allowed to repeat words. "Burrow" is just a weird descriptor. I'm surprised I haven't read about a person's "orbs" yet.
Graphic: Sexual assault, Bullying, Child abuse, Child death, Cursing, Death, Death of parent, Hate crime, Racial slurs, Sexual content, Violence, Body horror, Confinement, Drug use, Excrement, Gore, Injury/Injury detail, Kidnapping, Murder, Racism, Vomit, and Blood
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship and Genocide

Oh this book. It is beyond messed up and beyond gross and yet highly entertaining and captivating.
This book is not for everyone. If you have any sort of triggers, this book has it. So be warned.

Sadly, this one didn’t work for me. I liked the first chapter and was excited to see where things would go, but the more I read the less I liked. The gore was nonstop and extreme, but that wasn’t the issue for me. I just couldn’t connect to the plot and wasn’t a fan of the overall writing style-it felt repetitive due to the frequent use of similes and metaphors, the way pronouns were used felt awkward, and there were editing errors that took my focus away from the story.

The ultimate gory, thrashing, slashing, hacking, deviant death metal hammer smashed face mayhem.
There were so many things going on with this wild ride; a creatively colorful menagerie of monstrous psychopaths, innocent victims, and sex, drugs, and Rockwell.
This was written by a horror fan to horror fans. It was total popcorn fiction, it had everything I love about watching a Friday the 13th movie, but even more extreme. There were some seriously creative and disgusting kills. Tom Savini would have a field day giving this one life.
