This should not have been a series; the second and third books both felt increasingly cliched and largely made of platitudes. Yes, the messages are great (girls supporting girls! down with misogynistic bullshit!) but it feels browbeaten into the reader, rather than presented. I am a socialist feminist reader and am bored. Yeah, no shit rapists suck. Yeah, no shit capitalism sucks.
Maybe it's a matter of preaching to the converted. Maybe Young is just too heavy-handed a writer for my taste. I can see this being an awakening book to someone younger, or to someone who is new to feminism, but to folks who are already on the right side of history, it feels over the top.
