This was a really great way to end this series. I learned as I started it that this book was published posthumously, so I wonder if Baum knew that this was going to be his last book or not. It felt like he did. While most of the Oz books tend to focus on a small group of characters, in Glinda of Oz, Baum brought almost all of the characters we've been introduced to throughout the series together in what really felt like a grand finale.

This has been such a joyful journey! The series as a whole gets five stars from me. I had no idea how much more of Oz there is than just what we know from The Wizard of Oz. I'm really glad I decided to read these, but I will say that after 14 books, I'm also excited to move on to other things.

Good and readable and interesting, but not anything all that special. It would definitely be worth reading aloud. Not sure that the series had enough of a trajectory for me, considering this was Baum's last book. He never ran out of good ideas though. And this one is a bit less of a travelogue. 3.5 of 5.

Эта книга слегка (совсем чуть-чуть) лучше предыдущих и поэтому получает "двойку", а не "единицу". Действия здесь было побольше, а глупых разговоров поменьше! Но, в общем и целом, [b:Glinda of Oz|765300|Glinda of Oz (Oz, #14)|L. The fourteenth and final Oz book to be completely written by L. Frank Baum. I'll be ready for a bit of an Oz break after we finish book 15 (based on Baum's notes). I would probably have enjoyed this more if I'd had a bit of a breathing space beforehand, but we're trying to finish reading the series aloud before our big Oz party in August. There were some neat ideas in this one, and we get to meet yet more unusual Oz denizens.

One weird thing: the original manuscript featured Red Reera as a wired-together skeleton with red eyes burning in its skull. What the heck, Baum?? He changed Red Reera to a gray ape in an apron for the printed manuscript because, hey, why not? Less trauma for the kiddos, his editors probably thought.

This is the last book that L. Frank Baum wrote in its entirety. And if I’m being honest, in the case of this series, I don’t think that is a bad thing. This series had ran its course, the term ‘scrapping the barrel’ could be used. Wasn’t that keen on this final addition. 3/5
