Wow that was a great short story. I loved how it talked about different kinds of Love. Love from Jake, the love from Lindsay and the love from the dad. It was a sad story too. I really hope we will see more of Lindsay. I can't wait to read book 2 now. :) Only 4 months to go until the paperback comes out!!!

If this was supposed to endear Jake to me, it didn't work.

Here we find the real reason why Jake never came back to the Greenway. He leaves to go find out if the hospital is still running, however, when he gets there, he finds a wall of missing persons and notes to loved ones. And amidst all of that, he sees a picture of a girl he used to sleep with. A 15 year old girl. He's 18. But it's okay because he brought her candy every time.

So, after seeing this picture he decides that the pressure of going back to the Greenway is too much and he's going to go find this girl because as he puts it "...if there was anyone who could get him up again, it was Lindsay Morrow. Just seeing her body in her bathing suit on the photo has almost done it for him.".

She's 15!! And your friends (and girlfriend, might I add) are trapped back in the supermarket and all you're thinking about is getting laid.

Congratulations, Jake Simonsen. You are a douche.

Not sure what this little novella was really for. Not a fan of Jake's at all.

Listen, I really love Monument 14, okay? So maybe this story made me feel even more... uneasy because of that? It just fills some hole but I didn't think it hole needed to be filled. Reader doesn't have to know everything. If this story was supposed to make me like Jake, well, it didn't work. Understand him better? Maybe. But not like.

Was a good short story. I enjoyed finding out more about Jake and his life, even though he's kind of a scumbag... Can't wait to read the next book. Glad it was only 99 cents on Kindle...I would've been mad if such a short little thing cost more than that.

OMFG. Am I supposed to feel bad for this guy now? Well I don't.

I get that he doesn't want any responsibilities. But he left because he saw the photo of this FIFTEEN year old girl he hooks up with occasionally and then he's like sad since he's impotent now "But if there was anyone who could get him up again, it was Lindsay Morrow. Just seeing her body in her bathing suit on the photo had almost done it for him."

Gah.

I'm so sad that in the end, this fifteen year old hot girl couldn't get you going Jake, EVEN after you gave her a snickers bar. So sad...not.

Great short story about Jake, and where he went after he left the hospital, and a bit of before the incident, and how he had a sophomore girl to hook up with, and yeah, just a bit sad.

Okay so this was of course very short. Good. And I can see why people are angry about this because Jake left for a "stupid" reason. Yes it was stupid but part of it wasn't. He states that he couldn't return because he couldn't stand being useless and seeing disappointed faces. All the faces he saw that he knew on the hospital wall pushed him near the edge again.
Him going to see Lindsey was partly because he did actually care for her. However, his thoughts about sex were pathetic and ridiculous at a time of crisis. But it still got us a sense of him and to be honest he wasn't a great guy to like in 'Monument 14' to begin with and this was certainly not written to actually like him, just to know what he was doing and what he has been thinking.
I personally didn't like it but I still see the reason it was written

Interesting to see what Jake did after abandoning the others at the Greenway, who he gave his gun to, and why he comes back. Nothing special, but a good read

SpoilerThere is a massive black cloud and people are dying or going crazy but all this 18 year old can think about is getting it on with a 15 year old! Ugh!
