Lord Marcus Finley has a problem. He's been in love with Lady Phoebe since he was a brash 20 year old gent. Marcus, the second soon of a Marquis, has been getting into trouble and his Father has made arrangements to send him off to the West Indies to grow up and become a man. At a house party, just days before he's set to sail, Marcus has a little too much to drink and makes a pass at the lovely Lady Phoebe. To his surprise she's not flattered and plants him a facer and gives a lecture. They part on a truly sour note. Cut to eight years later and Lady Phoebe literally runs into the man of her dreams while shopping on Bond Street. She feels a magical connection to this stranger. Marcus has been called home on a family matter and can't believe his luck. Lady Phoebe doesn't recognize him. It's during a ball that Phoebe finds out that the object of her affection is none other than the man she's hated for 8 long years. Ella Quinn gives us a man with a plan to win over his dream woman, family drama, trepidation, angst, desire and several attempts to kidnap our heroine. We'll arrive at a happy ending, it's a romance after all, but the story will keep your attention as you follow the twist and turns that Ms. Quinn entertains us with.

This book was just okay; I feel rather meh about the whole thing. Both main characters felt very young and immature. I hated the treatment of their first encounter in the opening pages. If it was a very big deal, as evidenced by the heroine’s reaction in the moment and over the next EIGHT YEARS, then this is something for which the hero should not have been redeemed. But if it wasn’t that big of a deal, then why in the world was the heroine upset for so long? It just makes her seem silly. Either way, this book sends some troubling messages about consent.

I don't always write my review down (though I know I should, both for others' references and my own remembrance), but I couldn't NOT write something about this one.

I have really been enjoying the Regency Romance genre this past year and thought that the description on this one sounded like it would be fun.

I am not entirely sure, though, how to articulate my experience with this book. It was, in part, expectedly enjoyable, in part, anticlimactic, and in part so left field that I almost got whiplash.

How can one book be all three???
Excellent question.

The live story was cute, I liked the premise. Were there some problems with believability, exaggeration, and not enough depth? Yes, but generally forgivable, especially with a debut novel.

Did it drag on without diving deeper into character development or backstory details? Sure, but I wouldn't stop me reading or enjoying a book overall.

Was there an entire subplot that made no sense to the plot, had a tenuous context, didn't progress in any way that would be believable, and then just tied itself up neatly without fuss and as if the NEFARIOUS VILLAIN never happened? YES! It was so random, bizarre, and unnecessary that I am still baffled that it wasn't an entirely different story that somehow got tacked on to the end of a light romance book.

I'm very glad I experienced this book (and an experience it was!), but I'm not sure if I'd call it a good book. There were a lot of good elements and characters, a fun event conflict to love story line, and the chemistry between Phoebe and Marcus was great. But the prose needed work and making all the aspects work together in a logical way was lacking.

OH, the drama. I don't think it was supposed to be that funny but I was chuckling a lot while reading The Seduction of Lady Phoebe. Like I love the time it's set in - seriously, I do. It's just the things that ooh, ahh, and gasp at make me laugh quite easily. I don't think I would be a good fit for this era just because I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face.

As for the characters? Well, in the beginning I didn't know what to think. They were okay but I wasn't completely invested in anything just yet. Then things started to get a bit more interesting once the romance starting to blossom. I'll admit that I liked them being together but the little drama surrounding them was kind of annoying.

Towards the end of the book, I was completely hooked and wanted to see how things were going to end. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst outcome was on my mind constantly but I'm pretty happen with the overall ending. The little drama beforehand was overdramatic in my eyes but I'm glad that they are happy and in love. Plus, the baby part was pretty cute too.

I liked this book. The interactions between Phoebe and Marcus as they got to know each other were good.

The villain I think needed to be bigger or just not exist. I didn't really understand his motivation. I just kept waiting for him to make a move and he didn't until the very very very end of the book and that drove me crazy.

Auch beim zweiten Mal nett zu lesen, allerdings sind die neueren Bücher besser geschrieben.

The writing style took me out of this book. The word choice felt odd and clunky at times.
