Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this title. I am taking a trip to Savannah soon, and have visited many times, and I chose this book specifically to capture some of the Savannah magic before I went again. The author clearly loves Savannah, but also addresses its faults. The story is weird in the best way and very engrossing, with a quirky cast of characters. It was thrilling enough to keep me turning pages, and a great read for anyone with even a passing interest in Savannah.

I would never have picked this up because of the cover but it does not match the story at all. I liked this a lot, both the mystery and the family.

The Kingdoms of Savannah is a haunting and engrossing mystery as well as a cautionary reminder of the sometimes dark and sordid history behind many southern American cities.

The story seemed to take a little time to get going, but once it did I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going on. I loved learning more about Savannah and its history and people. Our young heroine, Jaq, is smart and brave and feisty. Family drama abounds from Jaq’s old-money grandmother Morgana to her homeless uncle Ransom. The story is filled with unique and engaging characters and the narration shifts perspective to follow each on their journey to the truth.

This one is perfect for anyone who’s a fan of mysteries or historical fiction and it’s loaded with a cast of diverse characters.

Thank you Celadon Books for my gifted copy.
