This was a cute book, but I think it would not keep the attention of a younger audience.

This book "Wowed" me.  The artwork is done in graphite and colored digitally.  I love all the flowers in the background like the dandelions.  I loved the pictures at night when the fireflies were out.  I mean, so beautiful.

The insects were well done as well.  The walking stick with a top hat was the best.  I was done.  This takes place in the backyard of a child, one assumes.  A Marble has fallen into the yard and all the sudden the entire yard is curious.  What is it?  Everyone has a there.  A fallen star, etc.  Oh yes, the Luna moth at night is also stunning.

I loved the story and the artwork.  What a great little story.  It reminds me a little of William Joyce.  It's that style.  What isn't this book more popular.  It should be.

I'm not sure why they chose to make it black and white and the marble in color.  I feel it an odd choice.  The yard should be in color, but it still works.  Wonderful.

I don’t often review children’s books here, though they’re a regular part of my job, but I have to admit I’m a HUGE sucker for a good picture book and this new one by Canadian author-illustrator team the Fan Brothers, Eric and Terry, is a gorgeous, whimsical story about what happens when a mysterious object falls from the sky.

It-Fell-from-the-Sky-5

As the insects humorously debate what this object could be and where it came from, a shrewd spider crafts his own plan for this “Wonder from the Sky”. As long as the other insects are willing to pay him a small fee, they can enjoy this and other wonders too. Will his plan work? Needless to say, things are never that easy.

It-Fell-from-the-Sky-3

It’s a beautifully illustrated book with one of my very favorite art styles, monochromatic with splashes of color, and the personalities of each of the insects comes through in the drawings and words. The themes, including community, selfishness versus generosity, and patience are ones that people of all ages can appreciate.

Whether you have kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews or you’re just a big kid at heart like me, this is a short, charming, thought-provoking book with great character-building themes that young and old can enjoy!

I love the limited but powerful color-use, the creatures all so full of personality in their dapper little hats, and the dandelions, gorgeously detailed in their puffy seed heads like a shower of firework sparks.

The writing is pretty good as well.

Exquisitely detailed pictures and such charming whimsey. Love the little hats and bow-ties on the animals. Delightful!
