This book fell into my lap at the perfect time. 1st of all, I had no idea who Laura Clery was prior to reading this book, I am not on the social scene (my fear of people reading my reviews here is evident if you're unfortunate enough to stumble upon my profile) so this was just a goodreads recommendation that I checked out of the library! I am so glad I did and I am really excited to read Idiot. Laura made me laugh out loud at my desk while I was listening to her read this book, she is honest and open and didn't make me feel like she was "above me". Her struggles are real and raw and although she makes a ton of money she is humble about it. What got me was the end when she discusses Alfie and his speech delays, right now my 19 month old son is having some speech delays and as a parent the word "evaluated" is a terrifying thing. Its not that I would think/feel any differently about my son but our job as a parent (in my humble opinion) is to just want the absolute best your children. If he is neurodivergent that is fine but it opens a door that will let in some struggles he may otherwise not have and the last thing I want is for him to face any struggles. I'm not scared of neurodivergence, autism, speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc. I am scared of my son having a hard go, and I feel like Laura felt that way for Alfie, idk I could be so wrong haha. Anyway, keep doing you Laura, its working!

An amazing mix of funny and heartfelt I started reading this right after her first book and loved it. So easy to read and the mix of funny, tragic, heartfelt stories was brilliant. I loved hearing about her life, her relationship with Stephen, neurodivergence and everything in between. Overall I really enjoyed this book.

Jeesus this woman has LIVED. I could’ve done without the forced comedy every sentence. She’s funny, I just wish she would’ve let the writing speak for itself.

Biggest takeaways - “Focus on what you do want, rather than what you don’t want”

Also is it crazy that I kinda WANT kids after reading this?

Funny, honest, hilarious, truthful and totally relatable.

I read the first book and I liked it, but I loved this one.

I started this as an easy, funny read to ease my mind after reading Babel, and was amazed by the honesty and wit of it.

I liked how she talked about her struggle with child birth, about her difficult times after birth, about how she exposed the difficulty of having a normal life with a new baby joining the family.

I liked her talking about what she needs and what she wants and also the part she talked about her experience with her autistic child.

Her narration to the audiobook added to the beauty of the book.
